ELL/ Emerging Bilingual

Welcome to San Fernando High School's English Language Development (ELD) program!
Our ELD program offers a comprehensive program with focused instruction for students classified as English Learners.
The program is comprised of the more specialized Designated ELD (dELD) instructional time and Integrated ELD (iELD). Designated ELD is defined as instruction provided during a time during the regular school day for focused instruction on the state-adopted ELD standards to assist English learners to develop critical English language skills necessary for academic content learning in English. Integrated ELD is defined as instruction in which the state-adopted ELD standards are used in tandem with the state-adopted academic content standards. Integrated ELD includes specifically designed academic instruction in English.
From newcomers to students that have lived here in the United States for years, the focus of our ELD program is the same; to develop the listening, speaking, writing and reading skills of all our students in order for students to access all content area curriculum and be academically successful.
