Financial aid refers to any sort of money you receive to help pay for college tuition and expenses. Financial aid comes in many different forms and from different sources. Below is a basic overview of different financial aid sources:
 
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application window opens on Oct. 1, 2019. You can fill out the application here: www.fafsa.ed.gov
 
The CA Dream Act Application window opens Oct. 1, 2019 and the deadline to submit is March 2, 2020. You can fill out the application here: https://dream.csac.ca.gov/

Federal Loans (Student/Parent Loans) Federal Government (must be paid back) US Citizen or Permanent Resident FAFSA
Cal Grant A California State Government US Citizen, Permanent Resident, AB 540 Student with 3.0 GPA or higher FAFSA or Dream Act Application
Cal Grant B California State Government US Citizen, Permanent Resident, AB 540 Student with 2.0 GPA or higher FAFSA or Dream Act Application
Cal Grant C California State Government US Citizen, Permanent Resident, AB 540 Student going to trade/community college FAFSA or Dream Act Application
Chafee Grant California State Government US Citizen, Permanent Resident or AB 540 student who is a current or former foster youth FAFSA or Dream Act Application AND Chafee Grant Application
Middle Class Scholarship California State Government (Only good at CSU or UC schools) US Citizen, Permanent Resident or AB 540 student whose family income is above $150,000 FAFSA or Dream Act Application AND UC or CSU application
Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan UC System US Citizen, Permanent Resident or AB 540 student attending a UC school whose family makes less than $80,000 FAFSA or Dream Act Application AND UC application for admission
State University Grant (SUG) CSU System US Citizen, Permanent Resident or AB 540 student attending a CSU school whose EFC is less than $4000 AND is not receiving a Cal Grant. FAFSA or Dream Act Application AND CSU application for admission
