Senior Timeline
This is a month-by-month breakdown of what you should be doing during your senior year to prepare for college.
August-September
- Introduce yourself to the college counselor
- Turn in your meal application to qualify for fee waivers
- Register at fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
- Register for September and/or October ACT actstudent.org
- Register for October and/or November SAT collegeboard.org
- Register for Subject Tests (if required or recommended)
- Meet your academic counselor to check credits, GPA, and college eligibility
- Retake classes where a “D” or “F” was earned (online credit recovery, community college for certain classes)
- Attend college visits when representatives are on campus (Check College Center Binder)
- Make a list of schools that you will apply for admissions & gather information about each campus – use collegedata.com or www.collegeboard.org
- Begin asking teachers and counselors for letters of recommendation for private colleges (give at least 3 weeks notice for letters)
- Work on & finish personal insight questions for the UCs and any other required college essays
- Complete your Brag Sheet for letters of recommendation
October
- Finish & submit the personal insight questions for UCs & any other required college essays
- Finish & submit CSU Applications. Deadline Nov. 30th
- Register at fastweb.com & other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
- Check private colleges & university application deadlines (dates will VARY by school)
- Register for the December ACT (check college websites for last testing dates)
- Register for the November and/or December SAT
- Register for Subject Tests (if required or recommended)

November
- UC & CSU APPLICATIONS ARE DUE THIS MONTH! November 30th!!!!!
- Register for the December SAT
- *December is the last testing date accepted by the UCs and CSUs (and in some cases it may be November for certain CSUs); other school deadlines will vary
- Register for the December ACT

- Complete UC & CSU applications and submit by November 30th – SUBMIT EARLY!
- Don’t forget to send SAT and/or ACT score reports to colleges and universities (send through College Board or ACT websites)
- Print out and save copies of all submitted applications
- Complete EOP application (if eligible) for CSU's (deadlines vary by campus click on EOP page on the right -->)
- Finalize recommendation letters from teachers/counselors (ask at least 3 weeks in advance for recommendations & you will need the recommenders email address, first name, last name and phone number)
- Register for Spring Community College classes if available
December
- Complete college applications for private universities (deadlines will vary)
- Register for the January SAT (if accepted by schools, check websites)
- Register for Spring Community College classes if available
- Register at fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
- Start/complete your FAFSA or Dream Act application (Deadline March 2)
- Start checking your portals to keep track of your applications. Remember this is the main form of communication between you and the university you applied to.
- Begin filling out community college applications.
January
- Make sure that Mid-Year Reports are completed by your counselor for Common App
- Complete the CSS Profile for private universities (check websites for deadlines)
- Apply for scholarships (see College Office scholarship binder and website for more information)
- Register at fastweb.com and other websites to receive scholarship opportunities
- Register for Spring Community College classes if still available
- Complete your FAFSA or Dream Act Application (Deadline March 2)
- Check your application portals for any documents that the university is requiring of you (fall semester grades, transcripts, etc)
- Register for the EPT/ELM for CSU's. Check ept-elm.ets.org for test dates and registration deadlines.
February
- Apply for scholarships (look out for SFHS Alumni Association scholarship application)
- Submit the FAFSA on line at fafsa.ed.gov (Deadline March 2)
- Make necessary changes on the FAFSA or Dream Act application by completing the SAR
- Complete the CSS Profile for private universities (check websites for deadlines)
- If you plan to attend Community College in the fall, apply NOW and take the placement tests. See college reps or college counselor for more information.
- Continue to check your application portals for information about housing application deadlines and transcript requests.
- If you still need to take the EPT/ELM, make sure you register by this month.
March
- March 2nd - FASFA and Dream Act applications due (NO EXCEPTIONS!)
- Apply for scholarships through fastweb or other websites
- If you haven't already, submit your community college application and take the placement tests.
- Submit all requested financial information to universities and colleges
- Keep checking those application portals for announcements and deadlines for paperwork
- If you are receiving a Cal Grant, make sure to create a Webgrants account to track your Cal Grant at mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov
April
- Submit “Intent to Register” to selected college by deadlines required (no later than May1st)
- Submit housing application for selected university if you plan to live on campus
- Review all financial aid award letters
- Designate your selected university on your Webgrants account
- Meet with an outreach counselor if you plan to attend a Community College
- Register for the ELM/EPT at a local CSU campus
- Register for the Entry Level Writing Requirement for UCs
- Register for the English and Math placement tests if you plan to attend Community College
May
- Submit “Intent to Register” to selected college by May 1st deadline
- Register for summer session at a local Community College
- If you plan to attend community college in fall 2020, apply NOW (you should have already done so) and take the placement tests ASAP. See college reps or college counselor for more information
- Sign up for Early Start or Summer Bridge Program at CSUs and community colleges, if available
- Submit housing application for selected university
- Review all financial aid award letters
June/July
- Submit AP scores to the college/university you will be attending through the College Board website (This is your responsibility!)
- Submit official transcripts for community colleges classes you have taken in high school to the college/university you will be attending. You must request the transcripts directly from the community college (This is your responsibility!)
- Complete SFHS Senior Survey - THIS IS IMPORTANT since this is how I get the address of where to send your final official transcript!!
